GDC 2017 Talk: Virtuos’ contribution to the Star Wars Universe

Shanghai – March 23, 2017 -During GDC 2017 in San Francisco the Virtuos team delivered an in depth talk about our work on the Star Wars universe across different mediums and the artistic challenges in finding a balance between consistency and specificity for each of these Star Wars entities. Featuring Kristian Pedlow and Jake Digennaro from Virtuos as well as Christopher Winters Senior Art Director from Disney Interactive and Russell Paul Star Wars ILM Asset Supervisor from ILM the session was a huge success .

Over the past decade, the Virtuos team has nurtured and strengthen our relationship  with Lucas Art, Lucas Animation, ILM and other Disney studios on:

  • The games, such as  Force Unleashed 1 back in 2008 then Force Unleashed 2. As well as the Infinity franchise in addition to the mobile hit Star Wars Commander.
  • Live action movies, with ILM since 2008 and since  2014 on the Star Wars franchise with The Force Awakens.
  • On TV series, such as Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels making full shot production and episodes.
  • Last but not least, On VR projects such as Trials on Tatooine.

Virtuos’ Contributes to Star Wars: The force Awakens
Shanghai, China – February 18th 2016 Virtuos proudly announces support of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. In 2014 & 2015, our Sparx studio had the opportunity to work on the highly anticipated blockbuster Star Wars: The Force awakens. The team contributed to the production of 25 Characters including fan favorites C3PO, Han Solo and Rey. They also contributed to 10 Vehicles including Rey’s speeder, along with numerous props featured in key moments throughout the film. The Force Awakens is the seventh installment in the main Star Wars film series and is set about 30 years after Return of the Jedi (1983). The movie follows Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron's fight with the Resistance, led by veterans of the Rebel Alliance, against Kylo Ren and the First Order, which attempts to rule the galaxy. As of today, the blockbuster movie has now made $1.9 Billion, and overtook the film Avatar’s previous record as the biggest-grossing film of all time domestically (USA). Virtuos is proud to celebrate 10 years of collaboration with the Lucas Group and ILM with such a landmark film.
