Though the RuneQuest tabletop RPG has been played continuously in the homes of millions of fans for over forty years, no video game has ever ventured into the magical wars and battles of that legendary setting- until now.

Unexpectedly, like a horde of Broo Marauders charging into battle, video game publisher Slitherine and developer Volmi – a Virtuos Studio have today announced RuneQuest: Warlords, the first-ever video game adaptation of one of the most celebrated and beloved RPGs of all time.

Fantasy Turn-Based Battles in the Bronze Age. First created over 40 years ago and cherished by millions worldwide, the glorious fantasy RPG setting of Glorantha provides a perfect backdrop for the turn-based tactical battles in RuneQuest: Warlords. While it’s not a full RPG, this strategy PC title deeply reflects the tabletop game’s legacy, renowned for its realistic combat mechanics and the incredibly flexible and iconic D100 system.

Slitherine, leveraging over 25 years of experience in developing and publishing turn-based strategy games, is crafting RuneQuest: Warlords using a highly customized version of the proven and tested game engine behind Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector.

“We’re incredibly excited to develop RuneQuest: Warlords with Volmi and Chaosium We’re confident that the millions of RuneQuest tabletop fans will find in Warlords a natural evolution into PC strategy gaming. At the same time, countless strategy enthusiasts will discover the deeply nuanced system of RuneQuest through our video game,” said Giulia Sellitto, Marketing Manager at Slitherine.

“We are thrilled and honored to bring the legendary RuneQuest world from the tabletop to the video game realm! Our team has poured passion and creativity into this project, and we can’t wait for both longtime fans and new players to dive into the adventure. Collaborating closely with Slitherine and Chaosium has been an incredible journey, and we hope you enjoy playing it as much as we loved creating it!” said Nataliia Pravdiuk, Game Producer at Volmi – a Virtuos Studio.

A Battle for Survival. Players will take command of the Talastar tribes, stepping into the role of warlords leading them through a gripping 18-mission single-player campaign. They will fight for survival against the relentless Chaos hordes, encountering iconic characters from the RuneQuest universe such as Ketill White Eye, Hakon the Swimmer, Wovandor, and Ralzakark.

Swords, Runes, and Sorcery. The powerful spells of the Stormwalkers and the feral mounted charges of the Shadow Cats will determine the fate of the regions around the Sramake River, west of the famed Dragon Pass. The three factions in RuneQuest: Warlords – the Talastar, the Chaos Hordes, and the Lunar Empire – each offer unique strengths and distinct playstyles, with specialized and highly thematic units.

Beyond the Campaign. In addition to the single-player campaign, the game features Skirmish mode and Multiplayer arenas. Players can choose their allegiance among the three factions, delving into the meticulously crafted and richly detailed lore of RuneQuest.

RuneQuest: Warlords is scheduled for release in 2025 on PC.
